George Card, 92, Parkersburg, Dies - Aug. 1952
Parkersburg, Ia. - George Card, 92, believed to be the oldest resident of this community, died Friday at
University hospital, Iowa City, Ia., where he had been a patient the past three weeks. Death was due to
complications incident to advanced age.

Mr. Card, a life long resident of this vicinity, was born here May 1, 1860, a son of Mr. And Mrs. Perry Card.
He was married Dec. 12, 1881 to Ida Daniels and was active as a farmer until retiring a few years ago. He had
since lived with his children.

Surviving are three sons, Clarence L. of Waterloo; Howard L., of Beaman, Ia., and Sheldon, of Lincoln, Ia., and
three daughters, Mrs. James Kyd, of Grundy Center, Ia.; Mrs. J.G. Skiles of Waterloo, and Mrs. Alvy
Polmateer, of Shell Rock, Ia.

Also surviving are eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren, as well as
one sister, Mrs. Jeanette Miller, of California. And two brothers, Orrin, of Dumont, Ia., and Charles, of
Waverly, Ia. His wife died in 1937.

Funeral services will be tomorrow at 2 p.m. in Engelke's funeral home at Parkersburg and burial will be in Oak
Hill cemetery here.

Mrs. Nellie Kyd, Grundy Center; Howard and Sheldon, New Hartford; Mrs. Laura Palmateer, Shell Rock.
Sheldon Card - Parkersburg Eclipse, Nov. 21, 1979

Graveside Services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, November 19, 1979, in Oak Hill Cemetery, Parkersburg,
Iowa, with Reb. Rodney Peters officiating.

Mr. Card died at the age of 75, on Thursday, Nov. 15, 1979 in Oklahoma City, Okla. Where he was
residing.

Sheldon was born the son of George W. And Ida Daniels Card in Grundy Co. near Parkersburg, Iowa, on
June 29, 1904. He married Elizabeth Larson & following her death her remarried. He lived in New Harford,
where he had a barber shop, Clarksville, Lincoln, before moving to Oklahoma City.

Mr. Card is survived by his wife, Mary, a son, Rev. Giles Card of Knoxville, Ia., two brothers, Clarence
Card of Plainfield, Ia., and Howard Card of Beaman, Iowa, a sister, Mrs. Laura Polmateer of Danna Texas,
a step-son, 5 step-daughters, and 22 grandchildren.

Schwartz-Engelkes Funeral Home in Parkersburg was in charge of the local funeral arrangements.

Services for Clarence L. Card, 92, of the Community Nursing Home in Clarksville, formerly of Waterloo, will
be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Parroot & Wood Chapel with burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Parkersburg.

Mr. Card died Saturday night at the nursing home.

He was born Aug. 18, 1892, at Grundy County, son of George W. and Ida Anna Daniels Card. He married
Dora Allene Klodt Sept. 27, 1911, at Grundy County. She died in 1968.

He was a farmer, retiring in 1936. He is survived by a son, Gordon W. Card of Plainfield; a daughter Melba
Nelson of Des Moines; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a brother Howard Card of Beaman;
and a sister, Laura Polmateer of Parkersburg.

Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to service time Tuesday.
Betty J. (Harriman) Card - 1988
Services for Betty J. Card, 59, of 2507 E. Fourth St., will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Parrott & Wood funeral
Home with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery.

She died of a heart attack Friday night (Feb. 12) at Allen Memorial Hospital.

She was born Oct. 30, 1928, in Fayette, daughter of Glen and Hattie Welch Harriman. She married La
Verne F. Card on March 29, 1947, in Waterloo.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Joe of Evansdale; three daughters, Judy Card and Georgia Card, both
of Waterloo, and Barbara Zummak of Evansdale; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Harriman of
Dodge City, Kan., and Glen Harriman of Independence; and four sister, Mrs. Ann Mae Graves, Mrs.
Isabelle Ames, Mrs. Charlotte Tournier and Mrs. Thelma Lauer, all of Waterloo; she was preceded in death
by her parents and a brother.

Friends may call at the funeral home for 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until services Wednesday.
