Richard Card was born in Churston Ferrers, Devon, England, 18 September 1618, the son of
Edward Card and Elizabeth Smith. He married Rebecca (last name unknown). Richard died
before 1 July 1674 in Newport, Newport, Rhode Island. Richard was in Newport by 1653, as he
appeard as a jury man in the case of Kempo Sybada and Edward Hull. Served on a jury again in
1658. Listed in Newport as a freeman in 1655 and in 1656, he is listed as one of the original
grantees of Conicut Island (Jamestown).
